  3. One of these days, Alice...one of these days...

  4. They still show reruns, you know.

  5. Ah yes, the good ole days when domestic violence was funny. Like prison rape, and December-January relationships!
    LOL

    Oh Wait, not-LOL. Um....

  6. I get it! I am either old enough or watch too many re-run classics.

  7. Thanks to Nick at Night and TV Land, almost everyone is old enough to get this joke.

  8. Oh, so you support misogyny? Typical lie-brul without family values. Woman, go make me a sandwich and polish my gun.

  9. Are you callin' me old, buddy?

  10. Sadly, yes.

But I'll have to venture the truly banal comment that I used to ask my Dad why they thought they could get away with a husband threatening his wife on national TV.

His answer was "Honey, I don't know."

    And that was the 50's.

  11. To be fair to Ralph Kramden, it was always a pretty empty threat. He knew it. Alice knew it. And we knew it. If Alice had been a doormat, you could've argued the threat itself as emotional abuse, but she was tough as nails and more than a match for Ralph's bluster. So while the genuine physical and emotional abuse of anyone is no laughing matter, I've never felt guilty over laughing at Ralph and Alice.

  12. He just wanted her to have some cheese... since in the 50s, no one had yet landed to confirm the non-existence of fermented dairy products on Earth's only natural satellite. There was no evidence presented, that Alice was lactose intolerant.

  13. That would be one impressive punch to generate enough force to have an adult woman reach escape velocity.

  14. I am late but I am also old.

And I so get the joke!

  15. While I agree that spousal abuse is never funny, I'm going to have to argue that sometimes domestic violence can be (have you never watched "Cops"?). Besides that, as Darwin's Dagger pointed out, Ralph's threat was an empty one, which is just as well because I wouldnt be surprised if Alice could've taken him (and if not, Ralph'd be wise not to go to sleep after).

  16. Happily, yes. The world was simpler then.. or maybe it was just me.

  18. Zirgar: Ha! It took me a minute to get it too. :o)

Doc: Ack! That's not very nice...

    Bubs: To the moon! :o)

Übermilf: Yes, I saw it in reruns as well. :o)

Seeing Eye Chick: Ralph never actually hit Alice, as far as I know. I don't think it was even meant to be a real threat, more a manner of speaking. The intent was certainly questionable, however. :o)

OKJimm: Yay! Reruns, no doubt. The show first aired on October 1, 1955.

Darwin's Dagger: I love Nick at Night!

    Dguzman: Jeepers, I hope not!

Randal Graves: Yeah, but you're French! You'll want a sandwich on French bread with Grey Poo-Pon on it!

Sue J: Certainly not! I would say that what we would call our age group is "well seasoned." ;o)

Suzan: Ralph never actually hit Alice, as far as I know. I don't think it was even meant to be a real threat, more a manner of speaking. The intent was certainly questionable, however. :o)

Oblio: Ha! I forgot that line.

    Mac: Cool!

Lisa: Yes, I saw it in reruns as well. :o)

Darwin's Dagger: I totally agree! Ralph would have been toast if Alice had taken him on, and there is little doubt that Ralph was only posturing when he said, "To the Moon!"

JustJoeP: Ha! I had think about that for a second. Very funny! :o)

Jon the Intergalactic Gladiator: Indeed! I am surprised that a blow of that magnitude did not vaporize Alice on contact!

FranIAm: It's never too late to be old! And you are as young as you can get away with, I always say. ;o)

daveawayfromhome: The stuff on "Cops" can be pretty funny! And I don't think Ralph was serious, either.

ThoughtCriminal: Hee hee! It's not so bad.

Crow: Certainly the TV shows were simpler. Most new shows are stupid, though. ;o)

OKJimm: Ack! I missed it! Shoot.

Comrade Kevin: Aha! What are you doing up after your bedtime, young man? >:o|
