Argh! You beat me to it. I was looking at an old Highlights for Kids book the other day, hence my reference to the creepy Timbertoes (They used to frighten me so much my mom would do a quick sweep of the pediatrician's waiting room before my appointment to hide those magazines).

But I liked Goofus and Gallant. That might be from where my admittedly small moral compass derives.

Regards,

Tengrain

You are kidding, right? You didn't really have a fear of Highlights Magazine?

OK, well, I do have to admit the Timbertoes were pretty scary.

Not the magazine, Dr. Z -- Just the Timbertoes. I thought they were like some sort of evil Pinochio hybrid thing. Of course, Pinochio scared me, too, now that I think about it. Toys coming to life, imagine what they know about you and that they can get you at any moment!

I remeber a book that had a painting of a toy clown doll on the cover when I was a kid. It used to scare the bejeezus out, I don't know why.
