Tomorrow is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! (ITLAPD)

(Special mouseover Pirate Zaius edition)

Tomorrow is International Talk Like a Pirate Day! (ITLAPD) This is a very important day for all of us, but it is an expecially important day for Cap’n Dyke, Lesbian Pirate Queen & Rogue Blogger! Everybody who is worth their salt should go over to the Blog of the good Cap'n and say hello! And ye 'ad better be talkin' like a pirate, if ye know what's good for ye.

And I know what ye be about t' say. "But Dr. Zaius, I don't know how to talk like a pirate!" Well, luckily thar be some special pirate book learning and internet stuff that will help ye out o' this embarrassin' gap in your nautical vocabulary.

To learn to speak pirate, you must study hard and drink deep from the well of pirate knowledge:

Talk Like a Pirate: Pirate Translator
yarr.org.uk: How To Be Speakin' Pirate-Like
io.com: Pirate Glossary
youtube.com: Talk like a Pirate
wikipedia.org: Talk Like a Pirate Day

In this example we see the words of the president rendered delicately into pirate speak:

The doofus pirate speaks: "T' Battle o' Iraq be one victory in a war on terror that began on September t' 11th, 2001, and still goes on. That terrible mornin', 19 evil men — t' shock troops o' a hateful ideology — gave America and t' civilized world a glimpse o' their ambitions. They imagined, in t' words o' one terrorist, that September t' 11th would be t' "beginnin' o' t' end o' America." 'Mission Accomplished' speech, May 1, 2003

As you can see in this example, the false conflation between 911 and the war in Iraq remains entirely intact, despite the translation into pirate speak. Such are the delicate and subtle charms of the Buccaneer language.

ARRR! Now hurry up and start shivering some timbers and buckling some swashes over to the good captain's ship, ye scurvy dog!
