Buchanan: "Blacks Are Lucky We Let Them Be Slaves!"
In a recent column, right-wing pundit Pat Buchanan attempted to argue that blacks benefited from slavery in the United States:
Pat Buchanan: First, America has been the best country on earth for black folks. It was here that 600,000 black people, brought from Africa in slave ships, grew into a community of 40 million, were introduced to Christian salvation, and reached the greatest levels of freedom and prosperity blacks have ever known.
(Rev. Jeremiah) Wright ought to go down on his knees and thank God he is an American.
Second, no people anywhere has done more to lift up blacks than white Americans. Untold trillions have been spent since the '60s on welfare, food stamps, rent supplements, Section 8 housing, Pell grants, student loans, legal services, Medicaid, Earned Income Tax Credits and poverty programs designed to bring the African-American community into the mainstream. Which, of course, was all conservative whitey's idea: heppin' da black man. (Leaving aside the fact that whites are the majority beneficiaries of all these programs). Of course, Republicans like Patty "Buckwheat" Buchannan have been the driving force behind inacting and funding these programs, chiding any who would try to reduce or cut them.
It's nice to see the ever magnanimous Pat reminding blacks (who are better off in America mind you, which explains why they need all these social programs) just what whitey has done for them. Bet it goes over well.
He should get together with other "slavery-is-the-Negros-best-chance" guy. Maybe the could spend an afternoon in their gated community comparing lawn jockeys.

buchanan is a total ass -- even worse i that i found i sometimes agree with him -- but in this case....

I almost stuck his head on a lawn jockey instead of a southern belle, but I thought it was too hackneyed.

Distributorcap: I remember during the '04 election he was the only one who brought up the neoconservatives and their negative effect on the Republican Party. Even the Democrats wouldn't talk about them. He always stopped just short of blaming Bush, though. He wanted to save Bush from the neocons...
