There Should Be No Debate - Nancy Pelosi Looks Great In '08!

I know of one woman that is qualified to act as president from day one...

I completely agree that Pelosi (and the Dems at large) have gotten a bum rap about the lack of things passed and that she has been a great Democratic leader. Pelosi does give me pause based on one of her recent votes though. On the stimulus package, she would not be budged on improving unemployment benefits. This would have had much more of an effect than $600 to people making $75k+, but because she and Bush had already agreed on something different, she wouldn't support it.

I understand, vaguely, her reason why, but I think she was on the wrong side on this.

Then there's her animosity toward Stephen Colbert, but that's a whole other story.

I don't agree about the war funding but I do wish she was the president right now.

Unfortunately that brings up another error on her part which was to take impeachment off the table.

Other issues aside, the meeting with the Dalai Lama is admirable and shows some real moral courage unknown to Bush/Cheney INC. Apparently human rights abuses are OK for some if there is Billions in trade at stake.

She's my favorite GILF even if she won't put impeachment on the table.

I think she would've been smarter to go for an impeachment vote, even knowing that it would fail -- it would've insulated her from charges that she lacked backbone, etc.

Nice work, sir, though I'll never be able to fantasize about Linda Carter's Wonder Woman again... thanks for that. Thanks a lot. Jerk.

I think it was wonderful that Nancy Pelosi spoke out about the situation in Tibet.

John J.: Ack! She doesn't like Stephen Colbert? I didn't know that. According to this quote, she watches the show all the time, but suggests that house members not go on the show. I never thought to look until you brought it up, but there are all kinds of great Pelosi-Colbert links! [ 1, 2, 3, 4 ] Thanks!

[...] "Pelosi took the jokes happily, 'Of all the introductions I have ever received,' she said to the comedian, 'yours is certainly the most ... recent.'"

Übermilf: Indeed! (Wait, is that sexist?)

Dean Wormer: "...Impeachment off the table..." I can certainly uderstand your feelings on the matter, but that's just another overused, out of context Chis Matthews chestnut as well. It's a single quote from an interview before the last election:

"In an interview with CBS's 60 Minutes, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) pledged that impeachment of President George W. Bush was off the table should Democrats gain a majority next month.

Pelosi speculated that Republicans would "just love" the 'waste of time' such proceedings would be. 'Making them lame ducks,' she concluded, 'is good enough for me.'"
Raw Story

Wanting is not the same as getting.

Westcoast Walker: "Bush/Cheney INC.!" I love it. I wonder what their stock symbol is?

Dguzman: Like Obama, Pelosi spoke out against the war when it was not politically expedient to do so. She has also led at least six attempts to bring the troops home. Not attempting an impeachment when it was impossible to win and potentially damaging to the party may have taken more backbone than actually attempting it. Perhpas saving face was not her first considertion. I can certainly uderstand your feelings on the matter though.

MWB's World: As Scooby Doo said, "Huh?"

Germaine Gregarious: Really, my dear - We were just talking! (Ack! Let go of my ear! All right, all right! I'm coming, I'm coming!)

Liberality: Indeed! Somebody had to.

Jon the Intergalactic Gladiator: Kryptonite, maybe?

Hmmm...

After reading your comment and your previous posting on the subject and giving it some thought I apologize if I'm still not convinced. I may post a response...

On the other hand I may be distracted by the bottle of scotch on my desk at home this weekend so I may just have to agree to disagree for the scotch's sake.

Swinebread: Yay! I think that she gets unfair press.

Dean Wormer: Just as I remain unconvinced by what other people write. At least we can agree to disagree. No big deal. :o)
