The Man From Krypton
Perhaps Swinebread and I are the only ones geeky enough to truly appreciate the sheer awesomeness of the moment when Barack Obama remarked at the Al Smith Dinner, "Contrary to the rumors you have heard, I was not born in a manger. I was actually born on Krypton and sent here by my father, Jor-el, to save the planet Earth." (BAC has the video.)

And that the name Barack means "that one."
Superbama!
Um, you and Swinebread were the only ones geeky enough to watch the Al Smith dinner, regardless of what was said there!
this comic geek got a little excited as well (although I thought he could have said Jor-El a bit better)
Not geeky enough? NOT GEEKY ENOUGH!
Sir, I knew the effects of Red Kryptonite when you were still eating bananas in Sumatra.
Good day to you, sir.
I SAID GOOD DAY!
Utah Savage: Ha! Good one!
Dean Wormer: Faster than a speeding newscast, able to leap tall with a single bound!
Jess Wundrun: Oh. :o(
pidomon: Yay! That makes me happy.
Matty Boy: I am from Ape City, Not Sumatra you cad.
And you stole the whole "Good day to you, sir. GOOD DAY!" bit from Monkerstein, who stole it from me!
I'm a big fan of both and I can see the similarities...the earnestness, the decency, slight dorky quality (in the best way), willingness to help and serve others...to inspire mankind by example. And above all else, the willingness to be a beacon for goodness in a cynical world. Although Superman's abilities are amazing, what makes him great are the qualities mentioned above. Power without conscience is tyranny. I believe Obama understands this as well. I'm a big fan of Clois and I totally also see shades of Lois in Michelle. How she busts Barack's chops and keeps his head from swelling to big and how they tease each other.
