Holy guacamole! President Obama has done something that no other president has ever done before. In a grudge match held at House Republican retreat in Baltimore on Friday, the president faced down 140 GOP House members and took questions from the GOP lawmakers on camera. What's more, President Obama aced every question.
This event will become teabagger rebuttal 101. (Let's say this again - The odds were 140 to one!) The President easily schooled the Republicans on every question. In their own vernacular, the President "learned 'em real good." Let's see a Republican presidential hopeful, any Republican presidential hopeful do what the president did on Friday.

I was actually very happy with the President's State of the Union address, and I would have been satisfied with that response to his critics alone. This brave and direct confrontation of his Republican critics was just an extra rainbowlicious slice of unicorn angel cake wonderfulness.
If I have any regrets about this event it is that it happened on a Friday, thus it is guaranteed to be buried by the media over the weekend. But I can't complain. Even "I hate Carebear" Tengrain gave a brief 'hrumph' about it. You can also read the G.O.P.'s "Better Solutions" document that outlines the Republican's legislative reform proposals for extra comedic effect. [ Hee hee! ]

If you still have any doubt that the president is beyond extra-awesome, then let it also be said that he plays a wicked game of 'peek-a-boo'. I feel that this talent alone proves that he is the Kwisatz Haderach. 'Nuff said.

I think those of us who've been complainy (perhaps even whiney) were hoping to see this from the start, not waiting until a year in. That said, I had the same reaction to the SOTU address and was hoping to see some serious follow-through. This was maybe the best in a torrent of good news yesterday.

Lockwood, I believe I read a great deal in early 2009 how President Obama tried to do Just That, to work closely with, hold happy hour at the WH, hold lunches, hand shake and cajole and buddy with, and encourage cooperation bewteen the monolithic Republicans and the circular firing squad Dems. It got him no where in early 2009, and in fact, just served to re-trench and strengthen the resolve of the Republican Senators against united against him and his "Bolshevik" agenda. We'll see how well it works the 2nd time around, now that voters are angry.

In my opinion, what Obama was guilty of last year was an unjustified faith in the humanity of Washington politicians. He thought he could reach agreements and compromises.
Now that he knows these people are totally unreasonable and largely evil, perhaps now the ass-kickings will commence.

Sure, and now that he no longer has sixty votes in the Senate, reaching agreements and compromises is a thing of the past, now it's going to be "my way or the highway". I'll buy that for a dollar.
A trend requires at least two instances, so I'm going to withhold what meager yippees I might otherwise blather on about. Unless he pulls a Mortal Kombat fatality on a wingnut, then I'll build temples to him.

There are no temples to be built, no wingnuts to be vanquished, only good, solid legislation to be debated and passed. I am not a praying subserviant, but there is a part of me that really wants Barack to succeed. He has an uphill road of negative media, press and assholes to overcome.. but by Jeebus, he made a great start with that Baltimore factcheck session.
